Poltrona Frau Water Illusion Glass Vase
A vase of thick, hand-cast glass whose rippled surface seems to have caught water in mid-movement. Water Illusion by Assia Karaguiozova for Poltrona Frau is made from crystal and recovered glass, in two sizes and three colours.
Water, held still
Water Illusion expresses the continuous movement of water, crystallised in glass in sinuous forms that cannot be repeated. The surface is smooth to the touch yet rippled to the eye, so that light passing through the vase moves across the table like sunlight across a pond.
As a vase, it is equally at home with a single stem or a full arrangement, and it is quite content to stand empty on a windowsill, where the light does the arranging.
Crystal and recovered glass
Water Illusion is made by the cast glass technique: crystal and ‘cotisso’, a recovered glass, are fused in crucibles at high temperature, then worked by hand and coloured in the mass. The material is therefore recycled at its core, and recyclable in turn.
The glass is thick and transparent, its smooth surface marked by ripples and waves. Colour differences and small air bubbles are the natural result of this handwork and make every piece unique.
A family of forms
The vase shares its material language with the Water Illusion bowls, so that vases and bowls may be combined on a console or dining table. Two sizes and three colours allow for compositions as calm or as lively as the room requires. The Poltrona Frau mark is engraved on the base.
