Poltrona Frau Water Illusion Glass Bowl

A low bowl of thick, hand-cast glass with a rippled surface like moving water. Water Illusion by Assia Karaguiozova for Poltrona Frau is made from crystal and recovered glass, in two sizes and three colours.

A bowl that catches the light

The Water Illusion Bowl is wide and low, its thick glass rippled as though a breeze had passed across it at the very moment it set. Placed where daylight falls, it throws soft reflections across the table; in the evening, it glows under lamplight like a pool at dusk.

It serves as a fruit bowl, a centrepiece or simply a sculpture for the coffee table, and it seems equally pleased with each assignment.

Crystal and recovered glass

Water Illusion is made by the cast glass technique: crystal and ‘cotisso’, a recovered glass, are fused in crucibles at high temperature, then worked by hand and coloured in the mass. The material is therefore recycled at its core, and recyclable in turn.

The glass is thick and transparent, its smooth surface marked by ripples and waves. Colour differences and small air bubbles are the natural result of this handwork and make every piece unique.

Bowls and vases together

The bowls share their material and finish with the Water Illusion vases, so that the two may be grouped on a sideboard or dining table. Two sizes and three colours offer ample scope for composition. The Poltrona Frau mark is engraved on the base.
