Poltrona Frau Mini Kyoto Table Miniature by Gianfranco Frattini
A miniature of the Kyoto table top by Gianfranco Frattini, made from six interlocking pieces of extra-light beech with Canaletto walnut inserts. Part object, part puzzle, it is a small lesson in the art of joinery.
Where construction becomes the object
In the Kyoto table, designed by Gianfranco Frattini, the construction concept is the design itself. There are no decorative elements: the beauty lies entirely in the material and in the joints, where Canaletto walnut inserts reinforce the ends of the beech slats.
The Mini Kyoto reproduces a portion of that table top as a set of six interlocking elements. Each piece is cut from a slat of the kind used for the table, and the slats join at 45 degrees to form a square pattern.
A small lesson in craftsmanship
Assembling and disassembling the Mini Kyoto is an agreeable way to understand the skill that the full-size table demands. Displayed on a desk or a bookshelf, it is a quiet tribute to Italian cabinetmaking and an excellent conversation piece.
Le Miniature
Le Miniature are scale reproductions of timeless Poltrona Frau pieces, made at exactly one fifth of the size of the originals. They recreate the smallest construction details using the same materials and finishes, which is why collectors and designers alike find them so difficult to resist.
