Poltrona Frau Journey Woven Leather Decorative Cushion

A decorative cushion whose front is woven by hand from strips of Pelle Frau® ColorSphere® leather in graduated shades. Designed by Giulio Ridolfo with Chiara Novello, Journey reads like a leather-bound travel diary of landscapes remembered.

 

A travel diary, bound in leather

The Journey cushions gather the sensations and memories of places once visited and summarise them in colour: sun-baked countryside, the natural flow of rivers and village courtyards lit by lanterns. They were designed for Poltrona Frau by the colourist Giulio Ridolfo, creator of the ColorSphere® palette, in collaboration with Chiara Novello.

 

The front of each cushion is woven by hand from leather strips into a checkerboard pattern. Every strip consists of three laces in progressive shades, two identical at the sides and a different colour at the centre, which gives the weave its remarkable three-dimensional depth.

 

Finished front and back

The back is in a different colour from the front, divided into an upper section with the hot-stamped Poltrona Frau logo and a lower section in micro-perforated leather. The leather is backed with canvas, the filling is a mix of duck down and feather protected by a cotton and polyester lining, and a hidden zip allows the cover to be removed.

 

Three journeys

Pier 1 explores a range of greens; Tannery, the natural colours of the leather workshop; Gion, the tones of violet and deep blue. Each is woven from five or six shades of Pelle Frau® ColorSphere® leather.
