Poltrona Frau Ikiperu Ceramic Pyx
A small lidded ceramic box from the Ikiperu collection, thrown and painted by hand, with a camel-coloured leather tie to lift the lid. A discreet keeper of small treasures.
A box for small treasures
The pyx was historically a small lidded vessel for precious things, and the Ikiperu Pyx honours the tradition admirably. It is just the size for rings, cufflinks, matches or the spare key one always means to put somewhere sensible.
A camel-coloured leather tie makes the lid easy to lift and adds a characteristically Poltrona Frau touch to the ceramic. On a dressing table, a desk or a bedside table, it brings order with considerable charm.
An ancient name, a modern hand
‘Ikiperu’ is the name of the goddess Cupra, venerated by the Picentes and the Etruscans, the ancient peoples of what are now the Italian regions of Marche and Umbria. The collection, designed in 2023 by the Norwegian designer Kristine Five Melvær, begins with the archetypal forms of classical vessels and carries them into the language of contemporary design.
Thrown and painted by hand
Each pyx is shaped on the wheel and painted by hand, with four colour zones in which glossy glaze meets natural, unglazed terracotta. Slight variations from piece to piece are the mark of genuine craftsmanship. White felt pads protect the surface on which it rests.
