Poltrona Frau Ikiperu Ceramic Cup
A wide ceramic cup from the Ikiperu collection by Kristine Five Melvær for Poltrona Frau, thrown and painted by hand. It holds fruit, keys or nothing at all with equal distinction.
A vessel of many talents
The Ikiperu Cup is broad, open and pleasingly low. It sits on a coffee table as a decorative bowl, on a hall console as a place for keys, or in the centre of a dining table as a home for seasonal fruit. Its three colour zones, two glazed and one in natural terracotta, give it a graphic clarity that suits modern and classic rooms alike.
Placed beside the Ikiperu Vase and Pyx, it completes a small family of forms that reward being grouped together.
An ancient name, a modern hand
‘Ikiperu’ is the name of the goddess Cupra, venerated by the Picentes and the Etruscans, the ancient peoples of what are now the Italian regions of Marche and Umbria. The collection, designed in 2023 by the Norwegian designer Kristine Five Melvær, begins with the archetypal forms of classical vessels and carries them into the language of contemporary design.
Character in every glaze
Like every piece in the collection, the cup is thrown on the wheel and painted by hand. The contrast between glossy glaze and matt, unglazed ceramic is deliberate, and it gives the piece a tactile quality that photographs only hint at. White felt pads on the base protect the furniture beneath.
