Poltrona Frau Cestlavie Woven Leather Storage Table by GamFratesi

A basket and a small table at once, made from strips of Saddle Extra leather woven by hand around an aluminium frame. Designed by GamFratesi for Poltrona Frau and inspired by the traditional sewing basket, Cestlavie opens to reveal generous storage beneath a leather-covered lid.

 

A sewing basket, reconsidered

GamFratesi, the Danish-Italian duo, took their inspiration for Cestlavie from a traditional object: the sewing basket. The result is a modern and remarkably refined piece that serves as a storage basket and a small table at the same time.

 

Its body is made from strips of 2 mm Saddle Extra leather, each individually woven by hand and finished with a pleated raw edge. The inner surface of the strips is treated with a transparent wax, and the strips are stitched by hand with waxed thread to a leather disc at the base.

 

Structure and lid

Inside the weave, an oval-section aluminium tube and 12 shaped aluminium rods give the basket its strength. The legs are in steel with die-cast aluminium joints and adjustable feet with felt pads, in a burnished or gunmetal finish.

 

The lid consists of two semicircular panels joined by a solid beech crossbar that acts as a hinge, allowing it to open through 180 degrees. Every part of the lid is covered in Pelle Frau® leather, tone on tone.

 

Two sizes

Cestlavie is available with a diameter of 46 cm, ideal beside an armchair or as a bedside table, and with a diameter of 88 cm, which serves beautifully as a coffee table with considerable storage beneath.
